About Quakers

Quakers, who are more formally known as The Religious Society of Friends, were founded in 1652 by George Fox.

It is rooted in Christianity, but Friends are open to the light from wherever it may come Quaker Tapesrty; World Family of Friends

”Worship is our response to an awareness of God. We can worship alone but when we join with others in expectant waiting, we may discover a deeper sense of God’s presence. We seek a gathered stillness in our meetings for worship so that all may feel the power of God’s love drawing us together and leading us” (Advices and Queries no.8)

This site is intended to give information about West Somerset Monthly Meeting and its constituent Quaker Meetings. We will leave the very interesting explanations of what Quakers are and do, and the 350 year history of the Religious Society of the Friends of the Truth to other web sites.

The best starting point to learn about Quakers and our religious movement is the main UK Quaker website; www.quaker.org.uk

There are very good introductions to download or request in booklet form.
